Environmental seal of the Alpine clubs:

In 2013 the Blauei hut was awarded the environmental seal of the Alpine clubs. Basic requirements for the award of the eco-label by the OeAV (Austrian Alpine Association), AVS (Alpine Association of South Tyrol) and the DAV (German Alpine Association) are:

1. The identification of the hut warden with the hut rules as well as with the ideology of the Alpine Club
2. Environmentally friendly and energy-efficient operation and management of the AV-Hut
3. Compliance with all federal and state regulations. In addition, all new investments for the supply and disposal facilities must be adapted to the current state of the art.

Water supply:

The Blaueishütte is supplied with drinking water from two springs above the hut. Especially in the midsummer months or after longer dry periods, the springs often unfortunately no longer supply the required stint. Then the toilets can be operated with gray water (roof water). Please use water sparingly and understand that in case of water shortage not all sanitary facilities may be available (e.g. showers). We take great care to save water, which is why, for example, only the economy button in the toilets is active as standard. In the washrooms there are flow rate limiters on the faucets.

Wastewater:

In the course of extensive conversion and renovation work in 2011 / 12, the hut was connected to the public sewage network. A sewer was laid from Hintersee to the Blaueishütte, so that all the wastewater can now be disposed of optimally. To ensure that the channel works perfectly, the wastewater is first mechanically crushed and then sent down into the valley by means of compressed air flushing..

Heating / Hot water:

Hot water is obtained from roof collectors, as well as from the heat exchangers in our wood stove (on which we cook). We heat the drying room with the waste heat from the heat exchangers in our cold rooms / cabinets. In particularly humid weather, a dehumidifier is used. The guest room is heated with wood in cold weather. We ask for your understanding that the showers can only be used for a fee. The required firewood (sustainable energy source directly on site) is produced along the way by us and transported laboriously to the hut.

Energy supply:

Since 2012 the hut is connected to the public electricity grid. We are convinced that a hut in the core zone of the Berchtesgaden National Park should come from renewable sources, so the electricity at the Blaueishütte is 100% green electricity!  So that the power consumption is reduced once again, the hut is equipped with LED lighting and motion detectors. Likewise, only devices with low power consumption, or intelligent control are used. As a guest you can help to save electricity by turning off the lights in the rooms when you leave the room and leave energy-consuming devices such as the hairdryer at home..

Supply of the hut:

Once or twice a week we supply the hut with fresh food by means of all-terrain vehicles and material ropeway. When choosing food, we prefer local products if possible, so we also participate in the campaign "So schmecken die Berge". By the way, our material ropeway also runs on 100% green electricity..

Waste prevention:

As a matter of principle, we use products with little packaging. The renunciation of disposable containers such as beverage cans or portion packaging for breakfast, etc. contributes to waste avoidance just as much as recycled paper in the quiet restrooms of the refuge. Despite all these measures, waste is naturally also produced in the high mountains. In the context of waste recycling and disposal, the criteria of the eco-label stipulate that waste must be separated into fractions and disposed of accordingly.

Compliance with the hut rest:

The hut regulations of the alpine club huts provide for a sufficient night's rest. With us, this begins punctually at 10:00 pm and ends at 6:00 am.
